Paradise is attained by touch.
Helen Keller
Pain is communication. Your fascia is in constant communication with your brain. Your body sends pain signals when it has gone past the point where it can adapt on its own.
While fascia is a structural and sensory network in contact with your brain, it is not inherently intelligent. Patterns are disrupted and altered through gentle guidance.
Pain and discomfort, restriction and limitation are not negative – these are bits of information. You don’t have a “bad arm” or a “bad knee”. That arm and knee are struggling to adapt. Other muscles try to take over, and over the course of months or years, there is an established pattern. These patterns are in your tissue, and your brain.
For real change to occur in your body, you need to feel safe, seen, heard, recognized, and guided. While forceful, deep pressure can feel good in the moment, lasting change comes from a safe, nurtured nervous system.
My role as a pain relief therapist is to create space for those changes to take effect – however, this doesn’t happen in one session. Shifting patterns can take three to six sessions. Cumulative work creates the most relief.
